CSUSM Art Association

Archive for October 2010

Artists are welcome to bring in work to be exhibited for 2 weeks and accompany the Arts & Lectures event presented by Capt Paul S. Hammer about combat stress. Art can be anything you that feel honors our veterans or expresses your thoughts about our military. Ideas range from photos, to drawings, paintings, sculptures, installation work, memoriabilia items and more. It can be as simple as bringing in photos of your loved ones …and posting them to a large bulletin board. Veterans highly encouraged to participate and share with us your experiences.

Bring your artwork into the Clarke Field House, room 113 after 9am on 11/9 but before 5:30pm.

Contact mhuerta@csusm.edu for questions or concerns.

Reception will be provided by the Veterans Center starting at 6pm.

Events are free but parking fees apply.

Here are some photos of work from last year’s event!

Jon Phenom has confirmed with AA and will be a guest speaker at our last meeting of the fall, December 9th.

Here is a link to his facebook: http://www.facebook.com/jon.phenom

For those of you that didn’t get to see his presentation last year, Jon is a fashion designer who has worked for the likes of LifeWork LLC. and Fortune 421. He is truly an inspiration, even if you don’t think textiles are your thing.

So don’t miss our last meeting and feel free to bring a friend or two!

The journal project will officially begin this Thursday, during the Art Show opening reception.

Here is a clip from the documentary made based on the idea of Someguy (This was not AA’s original idea but it was so great, we were inspired!).

We hope you feel creative! We have four journals as of right now that are dying to be filled with art!

Please email Emily (gaude003@csusm.edu), the coordinator of the project, if you would like to join in on the fun!

Come one, come all to the Second Annual Student Art show! Installation begins the 18th and opening reception will be held October 21, 2010 (instead of an AA meeting) during u-hour. It is a pot-luck reception so please feel free to bring some snacks to share!

Art will remain hanging until the 28th. Even if you cannot bring work, come support your fellow students!

*** Artists: Please make arrangements to pick up your work on or before the 28th. There is a show being installed the next day and unfortunately the AA cannot be held responsible for work left behind. Thank you! ***

Graffiti Piece: Concept due Monday 10/11-Event day 10/20
SLL has contacted us to participate in the Homecoming Events. They would like for us to come up with an idea for a graffiti piece, wall, banner or something of that nature for students to express themselves on.  Idea is due on 10/11 and the event will take place on 10/20. Send us your thoughts. These campus events are tons of fun!!

SLL is hosting this and we will accompany freshman and/or commuter students on a walk through Vista to look at artwork. SLL is coordinating the whole trip and including lunch and sprinter pass. Artwork in the Dome- 11/1
The Dome has contacted us about exhibiting artwork in the Dome. AA members discussed it and chose to do a facebook exhibit with your images. Images will be connected to one another via tape or string. Send your creative ideas to us. We will soon be asking for your images as well.

Honoring our Veterans Art Exhibit- 11/9
This was very successful last year and we’d like to do it again.  If you’re interested in participating please let me know soon so we know to move forward with this project.  Artwork is open provided you somewhat tie it in with the theme.  Event will be large and will accompany existing veteran talk about combat stress.  This will get high press coverage so it will be great to add to your resume!! I highly encourage you to participate!

Video Work
Commuter Services is looking for students to do video work for youtube.  Contact me if you’re interested in participating. Great way to build your portfolio and client base.

Journal Project
Emily Gauden is running point on this project. Idea is to gather some journals and pass them around to various members to incorporate their artwork in such as drawings, writings, images, doodling, etc., then the member passes it on to someone else to add to.  At the end of the semester we can exhibit these artistic journals.  Great project idea Emily!

Guest Speaker Fashion Designer Jon Phenom-
Emily to contact Jon to see if he’d like to return to our campus and discuss his creative process as a designer. Jon spoke with students last year about how he quickly became successful with his own designer business at such an early age. Jon is very energetic and motivated.  We learned a lot from his process and would like for him to come back.

Art Gallery Exhibit-spring

Spring Mural Project-spring
More info to come soon but we will have some mural projects on campus for students who’d like to participate.  UVA is requesting mural by students in the apartment complex.  Other places on campus are also being discussed.  Funding is being provided.

Arts Association Logo-
We are still looking for that one logo that best represents us. If you do graphic design and would like to offer some designs we’d love your support!  We need to brand our organization to get a stronger recognition.
